Research

The Fraunhofer Innovation Cluster "Cloud Computing for Logistics" combines the design and structure of logistics and information technology services in one common design. The two Fraunhofer Institutes IML and ISST worked together to develop a new platform for logistics software and, in doing so, combined the two disciplines of logistics and computer science.

The state of North Rhine-Westphalia provided the ideal conditions for this venture. With approximately 250 000 people employed in the field, it is the logistics stronghold of Germany. There are more than 5 700 logistics companies between Duisburg and Dortmund: The highest density of logistics service providers in the heart of Europe. The ca. 14 000 software companies and the planned Logistics Campus (Technische Universität Dortmund) support the choice of location.
